Should Ford Trust All 2018 Mustang Drivers with Line-Lock?

The pavement of Jersey City may never the light of day again, because it's about to be buried under a thick coating of tire rubber. When the 2018 Ford Mustang arrives this fall, every single model—yes, even the power-and-efficiency-balancing EcoBoost—will come with electronic line-lock as a standard feature.

This is fantastic news for anyone who likes to bring their Mustang to the track for timed laps, or competes in bracket racing. Line-lock allows drivers to easily smoke their tires, a maneuver that warms up the rubber and removes debris, ensuring optimal traction.

For many drivers, though, tire smoke is less about shaving seconds off a lap, and more about looking awesome. Now that Ford is making it button-push easy for anyone to do, it's going to be hard to resist the temptation to smoke it out at every opportunity—at least until the cost of new tires starts racking up.
