Buying the Right Tire Size

One of the first questions that our tire team may ask you when you walk into our dealership for new tires is what size tires do you need. Most of the time, the tires that are on a vehicle are the right size, but it is better to check the owner’s guide to make sure.

The first thing that you may notice is the letter P which stands for passenger. Alternatively, you may see the letters LT standing for light truck. If you see no letters at all, then you have a European vehicle.

The first number represents the width of the tire. This number will usually range from 215 to 235 millimeters.

The next thing that you normally will see is the letter R standing for the word ratio. Following that letter, you will see another number. This tells our tire team your rim size.

If all this seems confusing, then just come see us. We will be happy to help you buy the right tire size for your vehicle.
